Using a resonated exhaust tip such as # PM-5104 would make the exhaust sound more crackly, for lack of a better term, than the stock exhaust and it might be a little louder. If you want to keep the exhaust note the same then a tip like # MF35212 would be a better way to go. It fits a 2-3/4 to 3 inch diameter exhaust pipe.

Changing the muffler will make the biggest impact to the exhaust note on a vehicle. Since you have installed a straight pipe glass pack muffler, which is one of the louder options but not necessarily the most deep and throaty sounding option, an exhaust tip won't make much difference in my opinion. For a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 I have the MagnaFlow Stainless Steel Axle-Back Exhaust System, part # MF15886. This is an axle-back system that will install from the axle back to the tailpipe. You'd need to go with a cat-back system like the part # MF19018 if you wanted to change the sound. This also comes with a nicer looking exhaust tip too. It will increase performance as well. I realize as a gift this might be a bit pricey, but maybe he's your favorite son...

If you have a 3 inch tailpipe you would need part # MF35180. For 2-3/4 inch you would need part # MF35179, for 4 inch tailpipes you can use part # MF35181, and for 3-1/2 inch you would need part # MF35178.
These are all weld-on exhaust tips and should be installed by a certified professional welder.

What I would try first would be to bend the exhaust hangers that hold the rear of the exhaust up so that once you put the exhaust back on the hangers the tips will be high enough that they would not come into contact with the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch # 24825. Thats what we usually do here in our shops and can be very effective.
Try not to get too crazy with bending the hanger, but a little bit should do the trick.
